The Appaloosa is a breed that invokes the imagination of equine admirers, and a passionate conviction amongst Appaloosa Breeders and Appaloosa enthusiasts, about what constitutes the true Appaloosa, and the breed restoration effect of modern Appaloosa Vs unadulterated heritage.
The history of the Appaloosa heralds to the earliest recorded time; its history traces to illusive leads that go back to the American West and the tough horsemen and horsewomen who tempered the landscape. And before that, the spotted horses of the Nez Perce Indians and whence their horses came.
There are many outstanding horses who have contributed to the Appaloosa breed, made their own story in Appaloosa Legends and continue to influence the Appaloosas we know today.
The following Appaloosas, are the outstanding individuals who invoked my imagination,
and inspire my Appaloosa breeding:
DOUBLE SIX DOMINO
The MANSFIELD'S COMANCHE line played a major role in the development of the Appaloosa.
Bred
by Jack Mansfield on the vast grasslands of the Texas Panhandle,
Comanche (a 1933 black stallion with spotted blanket, later referred to
as Mansfield's Comanche) and his wandering band of broodmares, produced
one of the strongest Appaloosa families the breed has ever known.
The
first Appaloosa from the Mansfield's Comanche line to earn their own
prominent place in Appaloosa History, was the eldest son of Mansfield's
Comanche, and legendary sire in his own right - DOUBLE SIX DOMINO.
Born in 1943, Double Six Domino established his own family of halter, performance and race horse champions and top producers, and is credited as one of the most popular and prolific Appaloosa sires of the breed. Double Six Domino sired Appaloosa greats such as WHISTLE BRITCHES, BUTTONS B., ONE EYED GERONIMO, ARAPAHOE RILEY, DOUBLE FIVE GERONIMO, COOP DOMINO, REINING BEAUTY, CHARLO, DOUBLE DEUCE, DOMINO'S CANDY MAN, DOMLEO BAR and many more halter and performance champions and race winners. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Appaloosa breed, Domino Six Domino was inducted into the ApHC Hall Of Fame in 1988.
